“IF YOUR GOING TO DREAM, DREAM BIG OR DON'T DREAM AT ALL” FROM THE DESK OF
SENSEI JAMES
HOW ARE THE
SCORPION KARATE TENANTS APPLIED? These Scorpion karate tenets should affect
our approach to life
and our actions.
Self-Control - The Idea of self-control implies that we Scorpion Karate members control our own behavior; we don’t let emotion or thoughtless reactions take over. We never show frustration, grunt, groan, or make remarks. We push ourselves to exceed what we have done before.
Courage - Courage is a attitude that affects our actions in life threatening situations as well as everyday problems or incidents. Courage is an attitude that will help you accomplish your goals in life or keep you from accomplishing your goals. It take courage to try new things, to perform in front of others, and to admit to wrong or any mistakes you might have done.
Opportunity - Opportunity is a position that doesn’t come very often. For instance, being a martial artist many doors will open for your career such as an action part in a movie, school owner, world champion, and much more so when a opportunity comes take advantage of it and don’t put it off for tomorrow because tomorrow maybe a day too late.
Respect - Respect is courtesy or considerate treatment. Meaning to do good not only for ourselves and those closet to us, but for our Scorpion Karate school or center and those who are in Higher rank positions. Respect is something that will determine your character, personality and how you will be an effective leader.
Perseverance - We persevere in Scorpion Karate by faithfully attending class, practicing on our own and never giving up. We continue in the face of difficulty. We never say we can’t. We don’t make excuses, But we face challenges head on.
Integrity - Integrity is something that requires honesty with ourselves as well as others. It requires moral values and principles such as keeping your word, being fair, giving a 100%, in and out of the Scorpion Karate center, and being reliable when we say we’ll be somewhere or do something.
Obviate - Obviate simply means to avoid problems or situations when
approached by them. For instance, if a bully walk up to you and tries to start a confrontation walk away, or seek higher authority to deal with the problem rather
than handling it on your own. We will never misuse Scorpion Karate by using
what we have learned to do harm to, intimate, or humiliate others unless we must
do so to defend ourselves, families, our Instructors or fellow students, or those weaker than ourselves. This is Obviate.
A true martial artist or practitioner must have a positive, unrelenting spirit. As a student or Kyo-bum-Nim (Instructor) of Scorpion Karate you must develop an artistic understanding as well as physical skills and factual knowledge. An aggressive spirit must be tempered by inner calmness and humility. Developing the true spirit of Scorpion Karate, will give you the confidence, courage and self-control to remain calm but reactive in the face of intensity.
Our Head Sa-bum-Nim (Master) or Black Belts are world class athletes and have achieved this level of skill while still holding down full-time jobs, going to school, etc . This is made possible by careful and efficient class design. In a Scorpion Karate class, you will get full cardiovascular benefits, full strength training benefits, full whole-body coordination benefits, and full range-of-motion benefits. That’s why it is good to listen to your Instructor. Sure, your Instructor could give you an easy class, never push you mentally or physically, not demand your best, overlook things that you need to work on, never yell, always smile, give you a belt that you have not earned, but it wouldn’t be Scorpion karate, would it? The techniques in the Belt patterns in Scorpion Karate will help find and define your style of fighting or self-defense, to help in your protection in the real world. In the Scorpion Karate class, you get a second chance to get it right or correct what’s wrong; in real life situation, you don’t!
